Corrosion Resistance of Li-Al LDHs Film Modified by Methionine for 6063 Al Alloy in 3.5 wt.% NaCl Solution

Methionine (Met) was introduced to modify the Li-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) film prepared on 6063 aluminum alloy by in situ method for first time. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron Scanning electron microscopy, and diffraction confirmed successful insertion of Met into LDHs revealed that introduction could make much denser. Electrochemical tests illustrated corrosion rate modified reduced more than an order magnitude compared with bare Al alloy. Moreover, after immersion 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution 21 days almost same as without immersion, which indicates has good durability. The resistance scratched recover level a scratch 14th day based test results, meaning self-healing property. Finally, anti-corrosion mechanism proved molecular dynamic simulations found enhanced may be attributed addition slowed diffusion corrosive medium Cl− water molecules.
